International Week – Language and Food Departments

In February pupils enjoyed a week packed with activities relating to languages, food and foreign cultures. Events included Spanish and German cookery with the language assistants, a Spanish wine-tasting and tapas evening for the Sixth Form, Eurocafé and quiz night for Years 8 and 9, an Asian and Oriental Cultural Cooking Show, a French play by the Onatti Theatre Company and an inspiring talk on languages and careers with presentations by a former pupil of the school and Colonel and Mrs Morphet, parents of four girls who have attended Casterton School. A Spanish play and Chinese workshops were enjoyed later in the Easter term, and a German play was presented in the Christmas term.

During our international week. the catering department provided themed lunches, enabling us to try Jamaican, Thai, Italian, Greek and Chinese cuisine. We also conducted an interesting survey to see how many languages are spoken by pupils at Casterton. An international dress day helped to raise money for “Build Africa”. As usual, the students enjoyed seeing the staff dress up too!
