At Casterton we teach PE across the Senior and Prep School and also give the option of GCSE, AS and A2 qualifications in PE in Years 10-13

Curriculum lessons

Every student in Years 7-11 has 4 timetabled 35 minute lessons (2 doubles) of curriculum practical PE lessons. If they study GCSE or AS and A2 they have more curriculum time. We follow the AQA exam board syllabus. Our examination results this year, particularly at GCSE (4 students) and A2 level (3 students) were outstanding with all students achieving A or A*.

Some of the activities we cover in practical lessons are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Gymnastics, Health related fitness, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Riding, Rounders, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis & Volleyball.

In the Sixth Form students receive 2 timetabled lessons of 35 minutes. This programme is run on a recreational basis with a variety of activities, such as visits to the gym.

Sport at Casterton has developed over time and is now at the stage where it enjoys a high reputation not only within school and the local area but also at county and regional level.

As well as the wide curriculum on offer and the wide range of sporting activities offered on Wednesday activity afternoons, we encourage all students to participate in and enjoy the experience of the extra-curricular programme. All students are encouraged to attend activities such as yogo, dance, as well as other sporting activities.

Matches and competitions are organised on Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons in the following activities: Athletics, Cross Country, Hockey, Rounders, Swimming and Tennis.

The department prides itself on its high participation rates in all extra-curricular activities and has a high number of students who play for representative teams and honours.
