Oxford and Cambridge applications are encouraged from pupils whose academic abilities are seen to match such a rigorous profile. Able girls are, firstly, identified by subject teachers as being particularly talented in their area. In tandem with this process, the gifted and talented provision is run departmentally with pupils from Years 10 & 11 attending a Study Day in Newcastle each year. Oxbridge preparation follows seamlessly from this, under the experienced eyes of a member of staff and subject teachers. Informal preparation and discussion is reinforced by interview training from external experts. Prospective Oxbridge candidates attend the Oxbridge Conference in Manchester or Newcastle, and girls are encouraged to attend appropriate Open Days.
