Learning Success

The department is open to all members of the school.

The focus is to promote individual development and achievement. We also encourage pupils to reach their learning potential. Pupils are warmly invited to approach the head of department for help and advice regarding concerns that they have about their skills or work. Parents who feel that their child may require support or advice from the Learning Success department are encouraged to contact school.

At Casterton, support systems are already in place and accessible to students – this is an additional feature. Students may be tutored on an individual or a small group basis – at the discretion of the head of department.  Provision takes place around the demands of the pupil’s academic timetable and extra-curricular activities, usually during private study periods. Specialist tuition for specific difficulties is offered.

Help with improving literacy levels is available. A structured multi-sensory programme may be followed. Pupils who would like help with study skills and exam preparation are also invited to ask for advice.

The full time member of staff working within the learning success department is an experienced teacher, with additional professional qualifications to teach pupils who have been identified as needing support. Support is available, if needed, throughout the school career of an individual. The specialist teacher works across the Preparatory and Senior Schools which helps to facilitate a smooth transition.
