ICT

The ICT department constantly develops its curriculum to follow what is happening in the world of technology. Each student will leave Casterton with the knowledge to help them effectively use a computer. What we aim to add to this is an awareness of the Information Technology around them and their associated issues.

In the first three years at senior school, students will be taught a mixture of the basics of using computers with Microsoft Office as well as more modern ICT issues like cyber safety, effective online research techniques and how ICT is used in everyday life. Students will also be taught web design, video editing and photo manipulation using more advanced software available in school.

Students choosing the GCSE ICT option in Year 10 will be studying one of the most up to date specifications available. The course is designed to prepare the students for life in the digital world, allowing them to effectively, knowledgeably and safely use modern technology.

GCSE Business and Communication Systems is a practical introduction to ICT and Business Studies. It will help the students gain skills which will be useful in the various areas of the business world and also in any job which involves using ICT.

Sixth form students will study a new specification for A level ICT in both years. This specification encourages candidates to become discerning users of ICT, developing a broad range of ICT skills and knowledge and understanding of ICT. This should form a basis for progression into further learning, including progression from AS to A2 and/or employment.
