Geography

In the geography department at Casterton we believe strongly that we have a responsibility to educate your children about current, important issues.

By studying Geography here you will learn about:

We tackle some of the big issues such as:

We encourage questioning and independent thinking to tackle these important issues.
We also teach skills transferable to other aspects of life and education:

We are ideally located for fieldwork and use the outdoor classroom to enhance our teaching; this becomes particularly important at GCSE and A level where research projects are undertaken.

We are currently excited about next year’s trip to Iceland where 15 girls will experience the dramatic coastal, tectonic and geothermal environment of this amazing island; we hope to make these international visits a regular occurrence.

Classroom teaching is within a stimulating environment with interactive whiteboards, internet access and up to date resources. Lessons are taught by two specialist teachers throughout the Senior school.

We are very proud of the girls that continue to GCSE (AQA A syllabus) and A level (OCR syllabus) who gain great success and some even gain marks within the top 5 in the country. We have also had several girls go on to study related courses at the U.K.’s top universities.

The department co-ordinates the Ecowarriors who are helping the school to gain the Eco-schools awards. After only 2 years we have gained our Silver Status and will be working with the local community to gain the Green Flag. Regular meetings are held and we organise talks and workshops involving guest speakers such as Dick Strawbridge from the TV series, ’It’s not easy being green’.
