Curriculum

The National Curriculum and the Common Entrance Programmes of Study provides the framework for academic direction in the prep school.

All work throughout the Foundation stage as well as ages 5-8 and 8-11 are planned to ensure continuity and progression for the individual pupil. Pupils in Nursery and Reception form the Early Years Foundation Stage and these children currently undergo assessment as outlined by the government's guidelines. All pupils are tested annually.

Ages 3-7 - Teaching covers English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, RE, Art and Design, Sport and Music. The use of educational visits is used where ever possible. The aim is to provide a culture of enquiry, creativity and enthusiasm to learn. The aim of the prep schools is also to create an atmosphere where pupils can gather confidence and a good attitude to learning. The basis of the curriculum is recognised as learning by doing. Teaching is undertaken on an individual basis. Topic work is team led.

Ages 8-11 - The curriculum is formal and a wide use of specialist teachers are involved in the curriculum. Art and Design, Music, Drama, French, RE, Sport, and Science are all taught by specialists. Intellectual rigour is at the heart of the ethos at this stage in the prep school.

Prep (Homework) - At this stage prep is given out daily, including Fridays for the weekend. In addition to prep, all pupils are expected to undertake daily reading.
