Music is very strong at Casterton with choirs, orchestras, chamber groups and soloists in all age groups. Girls regularly play in regional orchestras and some are members of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
In recent years, several girls have achieved national success, some in gaining choral scholarships to high-ranking Oxbridge colleges; one girl won the Cathcart National Young Composer of the Year,her composition being premiered by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
The school regularly produces high quality recordings of some great Choral works including Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Bob Chilcott’s ‘Canticles of Light’ and Rutter’s Requiem.
This year’s annual Choral Society concert included the second performance of Roland Fudge’s highly acclaimed ‘Celestial Light’. The latest CD will include Phoenix, our elite choir, singing Sue Casson’s new setting to music of sonnets by Rupert Brooke, recorded in November 2010 for a forthcoming film about the Nuremberg Trials.
