Enjoying Music, having fun and being involved in a variety of musical activities are the aims for each and every pupil throughout all classes of the Prep School.
In the Nursery and Pre-Prep, lessons are fun and exciting, often tying in with class based topics. Pupils learn through singing, movement, playing instruments (including the recorder and ocarina) and performing. As well as class lessons, individual lessons in piano or violin are offered to children in Years 1 and 2.
In the Juniors, Music and Drama work together to present a musical every year in which all pupils thoroughly enjoy taking part. Recent musicals have included Robin Hood, Scheherazade, Dragonfire and Honk! Musical activities include Songsters choir, String Group, Recorders and a Woodwind group. Instrumental lessons are available for all types of instrument through our team of visiting music staff and there are numerous opportunities to perform both solos and in ensembles in our many concerts.
The Music department endeavour to foster a genuine love of music making and of performing; not only does musical skill become more refined, but self esteem, confidence and team spirit are all developed.
